The University of South Carolina is offering licensing opportunities for Use of delta 8 THC to treat inflammatory and autoimmune diseases


There are millions of people who suffer from debilitating inflammatory and autoimmune diseases against which there is no cure. Delta-8 THC is present in small quantity in cannabis and not many studies have been done on the bioactivity of this compound. Delta-8 binds to the CB1 receptor with less affinity when compared to delta-9 THC, and thus suspected to produce less psychoactive effects because of which it is better suited for clinical use.

Invention Description:

This invention is a method of use that can suppress inflammation may help treat inflammatory diseases.

Potential Applications:

This compound can be used to treat a wide array of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

Advantages and Benefits:

Thus far delta-8 THC has not been used to treat autoimmune diseases. This novel method has the advantage in that it is less psychoactive which makes it easier to treat clinically as a drug.
