Description:

Reference #: 01514

The University of South Carolina is offering licensing opportunities for The preparation of a brain targeted artificial nano-enzyme and application

Background:

Chronic neuroinflammation is caused by the activation of microglia, which is the major cause of central neuronal system (CNS) diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Brain tumor, glioblastoma, neuroblastoma, Parkinson's disease, Epilepsy, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic, stroke, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Spinal cord injury, brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, frontotemporal dementia, etc. Dr. Peisheng Xu has created a nanoparticle which can efficiently pass the BBB and be targeted to brain tissue. The resulting nanocarrier has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect and can be applied for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Brain tumor, glioblastoma, neuroblastoma, Parkinson's disease, Epilepsy, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic, stroke, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Spinal cord injury, brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, frontotemporal dementia, etc.

Invention Description:

The present invention describes the preparation of a brain targeted cerium oxide nanoparticle (CeNP) and its application in treating central neuronal system diseases. The brain targeted CeNP (T-CeNP) can effectively pass the blood brain barrier and specifically target brain tissue and exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Potential Applications:

The applications for this technology include Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Brain tumor, glioblastoma, neuroblastoma, Parkinson's disease, Epilepsy, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic, stroke, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Spinal cord injury, brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, frontotemporal dementia.

Advantages and Benefits:

The innovation is safe and effective in in treating Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Brain tumor, glioblastoma, neuroblastoma, Parkinson's disease, Epilepsy, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic, stroke, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, frontotemporal dementia. This provides a huge utility to the medical community.
