Background:

Bacterial endotoxins are residues from gram negative bacteria that can cause serious health problems if introduced into the blood stream. Therefore, bacterial endotoxins are a serious concern for companies in the reusable medical device field.

Invention Description:

The invention consists of a cleaning method for the complete removal of endotoxins from biomaterials and metallic substrates.

  • Out-patient surgery centers, and 
  • Any company that requires endotoxin removal from reusable medical devices 
  • Small clinical settings will also be aided by this cleaning method because of the non-toxic fluid employed. 

Advantages and Benefits:

Endotoxins are completely removed without harming the substrate device. This technique is especially attractive because it employs non-hazardous, non-toxic, non-corrosive fluids and is suitable for heat-sensitive biomaterials. The cleaning method is also able to rapidly penetrate and remove contaminants from complex structures and devices.
