Invention Description:

The present invention is directed to a simple cross-reactive organic polythiophene capable of producing different and unique chromic responses for a series of structurally similar diamines. It is also directed to devices that use this array to discriminate between several biogenic amine mixtures.

Advantages and Benefits:

This technology provides a relatively inexpensive and highly reliable method of separately detecting various amines and diamines in either solution or in food. Ease of use is also very simple in that contact between the chromic area and the source to be tested is all that is needed.

Development/Demonstration /Validation:

Experimentation was successful and accurate in detecting amines/diamines in both food substances and in chemical mixtures.

Potential Applications:

This technology can be used for the detection of biogenic amines associated with numerous disease states including cancer, bacterial infections and food borne illnesses.
