The University of South Carolina is offering licensing opportunities for Brain targeted antibody nanoparticle for neurodegenerative diseases therapy.


The currently available tools for regenerating neurons in the brain require local injection (intracerebroventricular, intravitreal, and intranigral) of therapeutics. However, due to the existence of the blood brain barrier, none of them explored managed to rescue the function of the brain by regenerating the lost neurons through systemic administration.

Invention Description:

This invention is a brain targeted antibody delivery system which can induce the degrading of a specific endogenous protein to converting astrocytes into neurons in the brain through a systemic route of administration, which makes the in vivo application technology practical and feasible.

Potential Applications:

The brain targeted antibody nanoparticle can be used for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Friedreich's ataxia, Huntington's disease, Lewy body disease, Parkinson's disease, and spinal muscular atrophy, multiple sclerosis, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic, stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, retina injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and frontotemporal dementia.
